Netflix said Wednesday that Dad's House, a new adult animated series from Michael Cusack, is set to debut on the platform. The show places 13-year-old Sean in suburban Australia, where he spends every other weekend with his father Ian after his parents' divorce.
The series centers on Ian, who is trying to make the most of the time he has with his son, even if he has a knack for complicating things. Cusack serves as showrunner with Dario Russo and David Ashby, and he is also an executive producer on the project. Russo and Ashby are best known for co-creating Danger 5 and for Italian Spiderman.
Dad's House also adds to Netflix's slate of adult animated comedies, a lane Cusack knows well after creating Adult Swim's YOLO and co-leading Smiling Friends, which debuted in 2022. Cusack and Zach Hadel said in February that they had decided to end Smiling Friends with its third season after years of work on the series, even though a report last year said it had been picked up for seasons four and five. The mismatch leaves Dad's House arriving just as Cusack turns to a new project while one of his best-known shows remains wrapped in uncertainty.
Cusack, Russo and Ashby also lead the voice cast, alongside Felicity Ward, who starred in the Australian version of The Office. Dad's House comes from Princess Pictures and Bento Box Entertainment, and its Wednesday announcement gives Netflix a fresh adult animation title built around a family setup that is familiar, messy and easy to recognize.
