Chad Feehan has departed Dutton Ranch ahead of the Yellowstone spinoff’s May 15 premiere, and he will not return if the series is picked up for a second season.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the departure as the show gets ready to launch on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network at 8 p.m. on May 15 with two episodes, then continue weekly across its nine-episode first season.
Feehan’s exit lands just as Dutton Ranch is being introduced to viewers. The series follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, and is built from characters created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson.
The cast includes Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, Natalie Alyn Lind, Ed Harris, Annette Bening and Finn Little, who returns as Carter.
That makes Feehan’s departure notable not because it changes the premiere date — it does not — but because it leaves the show moving into launch without a creative figure who had been attached to it before the first season even aired. If Dutton Ranch earns a second season, the next chapter will do so without him.
The series also arrives with the pressure that comes with being part of the Yellowstone universe. It opens with Beth and Rip trying to build a future together, and the premise puts them up against a ruthless rival ranch in South Texas, where survival is framed as a fight with deep personal cost.
