Spotify Down as U.S. users report streaming problems Wednesday evening

By Nathan Reed Apr 29, 2026

users across the United States reported streaming problems on Wednesday evening, with many saying they could not play music or use key features on the app. Complaints began around 7:00 PM ET and quickly piled up as outage trackers showed more than 3,600 reports at one point.

Users described the same basic failure in different ways: songs would not play, the app would not open properly and buffering dragged on. One user wrote, “I swear, Spotify only goes down when I want to use it,” while another said, “Spotify is down rn. I’m crying.” A third asked, “Why does Spotify of all things have to go down?”

Data from showed that about 15 per cent of users said they could not connect to Spotify’s servers, while 23 per cent had problems using audio streaming features. Another 55 per cent said the app itself was not working properly. The issue appeared to hit people streaming online more than those listening to downloaded songs, making the outage especially disruptive for anyone relying on live access to the service.

The same tracking data showed about 117 reports in India during the same period. There, 53 per cent of complaints were about the app, login issues made up 20 per cent, and around 17 per cent pointed to server connection problems.

Spotify had not yet said anything about the outage, confirmed the cause or given a timeline for when service would be fully restored. That silence left users with complaints and no explanation, even as the reports kept climbing through the evening.
