Independent Film Company has shared the teaser trailer for Idiots, a comedy from The Toxic Avenger director Macon Blair that sends two unqualified bozos on what should have been a straightforward job. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on August 28.
Dave Franco and O'Shea Jackson Jr. appear in the teaser, which follows the pair after they are hired to transfer a rich teen to rehab, only for the assignment to spiral into dangerous mayhem. Mason Thames is also in the ensemble cast, along with Kiernan Shipka, Nicholas Braun and Peter Dinklage.
Blair wrote and directed the film and also produced it with Franco, Ford Corbett, Mark Fasano, Joshua Harris, Brandon James, Nathan Klingher and Alex Orr. The movie premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and later held a 73% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its creative team includes director of photography Guillermo Garza, costume designer Karen Freed and composers Will Blair and Brooke Blair.
The teaser gives the movie a first public push ahead of release, and the mix of a festival premiere, a middling Rotten Tomatoes score and a late-summer theatrical date suggests the real test is now whether audiences turn out for Blair’s offbeat crime comedy when it reaches theaters in August.
