An unruly passenger forced a United Airlines flight from Germany to Chicago to divert to Boston on Monday, interrupting Flight 945’s trip from Frankfurt to O’Hare International Airport. The plane landed safely in Boston to address a disruptive passenger, the airline said.
U.S. Customs officials took the passenger into custody at Logan International Airport after being dispatched by Massport at 9:34 a.m., authorities said. State Police Trooper Leah O’Connell said the individual had been restrained but was cooperative when troopers boarded the plane.
The passenger declined medical attention at the gate after being removed from the aircraft, then was later transported to Mass General Hospital. O’Connell did not give further details about what the passenger did to trigger the diversion.
The case now shifts from an in-flight disruption to a court matter. State Police said the passenger will be issued a summons at a later date, while United said the flight was expected to continue to Chicago on Monday afternoon.
