Dubey, born on 27 August 1994 in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, is a left-handed middle-order batter who bowls right-arm offbreaks. He came into the season with a story built far from the glamour of the IPL. Raised in a modest middle-class family in Nagpur, he discovered cricket in ninth grade while bunking classes to play tennis-ball matches with friends. His father ran a paan stall before taking up a private job.
His route to the league was slow and often uncertain. Dubey began his domestic career with Vidarbha in 2021 with a List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, then made his mark in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 221 runs in seven innings and a strike rate of 187.28, including a 58 off 20 balls. He made his IPL debut in 2024, was released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2025 auction, and then brought back on a deal that reflected their belief that his power can decide matches like this one.
That belief has been forged through difficult years. During his early struggles, Dubey frequently slept in crowded dormitories, sometimes sharing space with as many as 10 others, while staying close to training grounds or tournaments. The innings against Punjab Kings showed why Rajasthan were willing to invest again: when the chase tightened, Dubey did not.
