By Emily Rhodes Apr 28, 2026

Rounds of showers and storms are moving through the region overnight, with a Tornado Warning in effect in Jennings County in southern Indiana until 12:45 a.m. and severe thunderstorm warnings posted for nearby counties as the system races east.

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Dubois, Orange and Washington counties until 12:30 a.m., where storms are producing heavy rain and gusts up to 60 mph. Another warning covers Jackson and Lawrence counties until 12:15 a.m., with more heavy rain and gusty winds up to 60 mph. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch also has been extended for Metro Louisville and most of the viewing area until 4 a.m.

The overnight setup matters because the stronger weather is not done yet. More widespread chances for strong to severe storms are expected to ramp up Monday night, then push through during Monday night into the early morning hours Tuesday. The has the entire region under a level 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe storms, with damaging winds as the main threat and isolated brief spin-up tornadoes along the line not ruled out.

The same storm pattern will not stop there. Another low pressure system is expected to swing through Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing another round of showers and storms. For that system, most of the WLKY viewing area, including Metro Louisville, is under a marginal risk while far southern counties are in a slight risk, with gusty winds and large hail the main concerns and a brief spin-up tornado still possible.

Cooler and drier air will move into the Ohio Valley behind the system, and temperatures are expected to run below normal for , and , with highs only in the 60s. The overnight threat should wrap up before the a.m. commute Tuesday, but the next two days still carry enough instability to keep the region on alert.
