Maharashtra batter Sahil Parakh made his Indian Premier League debut for Delhi Capitals on Monday in New Delhi, stepping into the side for its IPL 2026 game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. DC skipper Axar Patel said at the toss that Parakh would replace Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka at the top of the order.
The 18-year-old left-handed batter and leg spinner was one of Delhi Capitals' younger calls in the auction, where the franchise picked him up for Rs. 30 lakh. Before his first IPL appearance, Parakh had already shown what he could do in pressure moments. In 2024, he scored an unbeaten 109 off 75 balls against Australia for India’s under-19 squad.
His rise has also been backed by a sharp run of domestic form. In the Maharashtra Premier League in 2025, Parakh represented Eagle Titans Nashik and scored 202 runs at a strike rate of 177.19, numbers that helped keep his name in the conversation ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Delhi Capitals framed the moment simply on social media: “Our young Tiger makes his IPL Debut tonight at home 🔥💪”
Parakh’s selection fits a pattern Delhi Capitals have leaned on before — giving opportunities to young players who have already shown they can turn a match in a short burst. The tension now is whether that youth record can survive the jump from age-group cricket and domestic T20s to the pace and scrutiny of the IPL.
For Parakh, Monday was the line between prospect and professional. What he does next will decide how quickly that line disappears.
