Malika Andrews: Thunder on sweep watch as playoffs move past Game 3

By Kevin Mitchell Apr 26, 2026

Oklahoma City is one win from a sweep, and the Thunder have barely left room for doubt. Their 3-0 lead over the in the first round of the is the kind of grip that makes every remaining game feel like a formality.

The closest Phoenix has come was Saturday, when Oklahoma City won by 12 points in Phoenix. That was enough to keep the Thunder in position either to close out the series in four games or, if the Suns can salvage one, settle for a gentleman’s sweep. In a postseason where Game 3s are now complete across multiple first-round matchups, Oklahoma City remains one of the clearest stories of the bracket.

The larger picture is just as stark. The Thunder are in a strong position in their title defense, and the numbers from this series explain why. They have controlled all three games so far, and even the tightest margin has still been a double-digit loss for Phoenix. That leaves little suspense about which team has carried the edge from the start.

There is one wrinkle waiting beyond the Suns, and it is San Antonio. The were Oklahoma City’s kryptonite during the regular season, winning four of the five head-to-head matchups. That would normally be enough to complicate any postseason path. But San Antonio brings an extreme lack of postseason experience, a factor that changes the tone of the matchup before the teams even meet.

For now, the Thunder have done the hard part by building the cushion. What comes next is whether Phoenix can avoid the sweep long enough to force Oklahoma City to keep playing, or whether the Spurs become the first real test of a playoff run that has already looked well beyond control.
