Neon Union, the country duo of Leo Brooks and Andrew Millsaps, said Friday, April 24, that it is going its separate ways. Millsaps said the split closes this chapter of the act they formed in 2022.
“After a lot of thought and consideration, we’ve decided to go our separate ways. This chapter of Neon Union is closing,” Millsaps said. Brooks said the pair will keep writing songs together, saying, “Andrew will always be my best friend, and we will still write songs together.”
The announcement lands after a fast rise for the pair. Since forming in 2022, Neon Union signed a deal with Red Street Records’ country division, earned an Academy of Country Music nomination for New Duo/Group of the Year, performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage and opened for or collaborated with Hardy, Scotty McCreery and Pitbull.
Millsaps thanked Red Street Records for “the opportunity to put our music out to the world” and said the duo had reached the Grand Ole Opry Circle. He called the run “a very impactful and special chapter” and said he was grateful for the “bucket list check marks” the partnership brought him. Brooks, too, framed the breakup as a transition rather than an ending, thanking the label and saying, “Life is a journey, and I’m just grateful for the ride.”
The split matters now because it ends the Neon Union project just as the group had built its strongest credentials. It also leaves open what comes next for both men, even as Brooks says the songwriting partnership will continue. For fans who followed the duo from its 2022 start to the Opry stage, the headline answer is clear: Neon Union is over, but the songs may not be.
