St. Louis CITY SC returns to Energizer Park on Saturday night to meet the San Jose Earthquakes for the first time at home this season, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed live on Apple TV as every CITY SC game is this season.
The game arrives with both clubs carrying very different recent results. St. Louis is back from a 4-1 loss at Seattle Sounders last weekend, a result softened only by Eduard Löwen’s second-half stoppage-time goal, his 20th career goal with CITY SC. San Jose, meanwhile, comes in atop the Western Conference standings at 8-1-0 with 24 points after a 5-1 win over Austin on Wednesday night.
That record helps explain why this matchup has shape even before kickoff. San Jose has scored 22 goals and conceded four, with nine different players finding the net. Ousseni Bouda and Preston Judd lead the way with five goals each, and Niko Tsakiris has six assists. The Earthquakes’ only loss came at home against Seattle in March.
St. Louis has its own reason to believe the home crowd can change the tone. CITY SC has dropped only one game at home this season and has conceded just three goals there, while scoring 10 goals over its last five matches. The club also owns a perfect 6-0-0 record against San Jose across all competitions, outscoring the Earthquakes 14-4.
Last year’s meetings leaned the same way. CITY SC beat San Jose 2-1 at home in May and 3-1 at PayPal Park in September, two results that reinforced a lopsided run in a series that has never gone the Earthquakes’ way. Saturday’s meeting gives San Jose a chance to test that history against the Western Conference leader, and gives St. Louis a chance to show its home form still matters against the team on top.
