The Kansas City Current has been valued at $325 million by Forbes, putting the club second among National Women's Soccer League teams and giving Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes another marker in their expanding sports portfolio. Angel City FC tops the league at $340 million.
Brittany Mahomes is one of the founding co-owners of the Current and helped bring the franchise to Kansas City in 2020 with Angie Long and Chris Long. Patrick Mahomes joined the ownership group in 2022, becoming the first active NFL player to hold equity in an NWSL team, while also adding stakes in the Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City.
The valuation lands as the Mahomeses continue to build their presence in the city where they have been based since 2017, when he was drafted by the Chiefs. It also comes after the quarterback signed a 10-year, $450 million extension in 2020, a deal that is meant to keep him with Kansas City through at least 2030 and has helped fuel an estimated net worth of $160 million.
Forbes said the $325 million figure reflects investment in the Current's future and earning potential, not cash sitting in the club's accounts. That distinction matters because the team is still trying to prove that women's soccer can command the kind of valuation usually reserved for much older and larger franchises, and the Current has set that target openly, saying it wants to become the best women's football club in the world.
There is also a personal layer to the latest number. Patrick Mahomes suffered an ACL tear that ended his 2025 season and underwent surgery in Texas in December, with reporting the procedure was incredibly successful. He said in January that he wanted to be back to full health in time for the start of the upcoming season, and in his own words, 'The doctor kind of gives you goals to get to' and 'I just try to maximize those.'
That recovery and the club's rising value are moving on parallel tracks. The Current's growth adds another high-profile piece to a Kansas City sports landscape that already includes the Chiefs, Royals and Sporting KC, and it gives the Mahomes family a deeper stake in a city where their business and athletic fortunes are closely tied.
