The Savannah Bananas’ Saturday game at Yankee Stadium has been moved up to Friday at 7:30 p.m. because rain is in the forecast, while the second game at the Bronx ballpark remains set for 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for Saturday’s game may be used Friday, keeping the club’s two sold-out games on track at Yankee Stadium this weekend.
The Bananas will face the Party Animals in Banana Ball, and Friday’s game will be available on YouTube, the App and Disney+. Sunday’s game will stream on YouTube and the Roku Sports Channel.
Tickets for the tour are sold through a lottery system and start at $35 when bought directly from the official site, but the drawing was completed months ago. On third-party websites such as Stubhub, Vivid Seats and Ticketmaster, seats are listed for upwards of $99, underscoring the demand for the team that has billed itself as the “greatest show in sports.”
The Bananas are an exhibition team based in Savannah, Georgia, and play Banana Ball as part of Fans First Entertainment, which also includes the Party Animals among its six independent professional teams. Many of the players have large social media followings and have gone viral for their antics during games, including one player and one pitcher who stand on 10 feet tall stilts.
Fans headed to Yankee Stadium are being steered toward mass transit. The No. 4 and D line subway trains serve the ballpark, Metro-North offers service to the stadium, and the LIRR can be used to get into the city before transferring to the subway. The stadium is also reachable by the Bx6, Bx13, Bx1 and Bx2 bus lines, or by car via I-87, also known as the Major Deegan Expressway. There is also something new for spectators beyond the game itself. New concessions at the stadium include the Sticky Que Sandwich from Streetbird, Lucky Fries by Fuku, empanadas from Nuchas, Magnolia Bakery and a mini chicken bucket that is actually ice cream. That sort of menu fits the Bananas’ brand, but the weather move shows the schedule can still shift quickly when a stadium show becomes a baseball game and then has to move around the forecast.
