VJ Edgecombe scored 30 points and hit six 3-pointers Tuesday night as the 76ers beat the Celtics 111-97 in Game 2 at TD Garden.
The result left the series tied at one game apiece and again put Edgecombe at the center of Philadelphia’s attack. Tyrese Maxey and Edgecombe were described as the 76ers’ backcourt, and both were part of the push that turned a road game in Boston into a comfortable win.
The performance carried extra weight because Edgecombe had already announced himself at the Garden once before. On Oct. 22, in his NBA debut against the Celtics, he scored 34 points. This time, he followed that outburst with another big night, giving Philadelphia a second straight reminder of what he can do on that floor.
Boston came in with the edge after winning Game 1 wire-to-wire, but Game 2 moved in a different direction. The Celtics shot 13 for 50 from 3-point range, and Philadelphia took advantage while Edgecombe and Maxey went off in the backcourt.
That leaves the matchup even, but the louder story right now is that Edgecombe’s vj edgecombe stats are becoming impossible to ignore. Two games at the Garden have produced 64 points, and the Celtics now have to answer for a player who has made Boston’s home building look unusually welcoming to him.
