Indianapolis Weather: Dry weekend ahead before Monday night storms

By Michael Bennett Apr 24, 2026

The weekend is shaping up dry and comfortable across central Indiana, but the calm will not last long. Another strong cold front may drive a wave of heavy storms through parts of Indiana Monday night, with the potential for strong to severe weather in place by then.

Friday evening still carries scattered rain and storm chances, and a few storms could be gusty east of Indianapolis. Rain chances end overnight, though clouds will hold on Friday night and lows will mainly stay in the 50s.

Saturday starts with clouds, then brightens as the day goes on, with highs in the 70s. Conditions look great for the match on Saturday evening. Saturday night turns fair and cooler, with lows in the low 50s and 40s.

Sunday looks partly cloudy and pleasant, with highs in the low to mid 70s. After that, the next system takes aim at Indiana Monday night. Warm, humid air and wind energy aloft could set the stage for strong storms, and all modes of severe weather are possible. Parts of Illinois may take the first hit Monday evening, before a squall line moves into Indiana overnight. If the forecast holds, the main threats would be damaging wind and tornadoes.

Cooler weather is likely to settle in for a few days in the middle of next week, and there are signs that Saturday morning, May 2, could dip back into the 30s. For now, Indianapolis weather gives the region a brief spring window before the next sharp turn.
