Capital One Down as App and Website Outages Hit Users Friday

By Nathan Reed Apr 24, 2026

app and website users reported trouble accessing online banking on Friday, with complaints beginning to pile up around 4 p.m. ET. Most of the reports said mobile and online banking were unavailable, and by 4:10 p.m. had logged more than 4,000 outage complaints.

Capital One had not responded to the outage reports by then, leaving customers to compare notes online as their accounts failed to load. One user wrote, “Omg i thought they closed my account.” Another said, “I can’t see my checking or savings. Only my credit card. Anyone having any issues using your debit card? I haven’t tried yet.”

The problem appeared to center on access rather than a full account shutdown. Users said their checking and savings accounts were missing from the app and website, while credit cards still showed up. One customer said they tried logging in on a computer and in the app, switched browsers and cleared the browser cache, but nothing fixed it. Another said they called support and were told there was a system outage that staff were aware of and working to restore, with no estimate for when service would return.

That gap — between what customers could see and what the bank had said publicly — is what made the outage feel more alarming than a routine login error. For people trying to check balances, use debit cards or simply confirm their money was still there, the screen looked like an empty vault. One frustrated user summed it up this way: “Both my online account and my app say I have no accounts! What the heck.”

Friday’s reports put Capital One down in the middle of a peak banking window, when many customers were checking balances and moving money before the weekend. What customers will want next is a clear explanation from the bank, and a timetable for when access will be fully restored.
