Gloria Trevi will receive the Premio a la Trayectoria Musical at Billboard Mujeres Latinas en la Música 2026, a recognition that lands on a singer who has spent nearly four decades at the center of Latin music’s biggest conversations. Chiquis, who will host the April 23 gala, said Trevi has long been an artist with no filter, adding that she loves how the singer is “sin pelos en la lengua.”
The honor puts Trevi back in the spotlight as one of Latin music’s most iconic, controversial and influential figures, with a catalog that includes “Pelo suelto,” “El favor de la soledad” and three top 10 hits on Hot Latin Songs: “Cinco minutos,” “Con los ojos cerrados” and “Me siento tan sola.” The special will air live April 23 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Telemundo and stream on Peacock and the Telemundo app, while Billboard’s red carpet coverage will stream on Billboard.com and the Billboard Latin YouTube channel.
Chiquis said her connection to Trevi stretches back to 1991, when she first heard her through “Pelo suelto,” and deepened in 1994 with “La papa sin catsup,” a song Jenni Rivera later covered in 2003. Trevi’s name also sits in Rivera’s family history in other ways: Trevi and Armando were among the first people to call Chiquis after Rivera died in an airplane accident in 2012, and Trevi later presented Rivera’s posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024.
That personal thread gives the award more weight than a standard career tribute. Chiquis said Trevi was an artist she admired enough to ask for permission before singing “Pelo suelto” at an awards show, and Trevi agreed. Chiquis said, “Esta mujer es increíble,” and Trevi has shown the same openness toward her, telling her, “Para lo que necesiten, aquí estoy. Véanme como una [segunda] mamá, como una amiga, como una hermana.” The tribute now closes the loop on a relationship shaped by admiration, loss and a shared place in the story of Mexican music.
