The beat the 3-1 on Tuesday, but the win came with a scare when was sent home from first on an single in the sixth inning and was thrown out at the plate by several feet. Lee took a few moments to get up and hobble to the dugout after the play.

Lee finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, then said through an interpreter that he had banged up his quad in Washington and banged it up again on Tuesday, though he said he had “no worries” about the injury. The throw from Dodgers second baseman to catcher was accurate, and Giants manager later said he expected Lee to play Wednesday against Los Angeles.

Vitello said the move to remove Lee and put Jerar Encarnacion in right field was precautionary. He said Lee has had a couple of tough slides recently and probably aggravated the rough skin from sliding at the plate, adding that the relay throw in had extra air under it and the play only looked sloppy because it worked out for the defense.

The Giants and Dodgers were back at it Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., with Tyler Mahle expected to start for San Francisco against Shohei Ohtani. The Giants entered at 10-13 and the Dodgers at 16-7, a gap that made the series feel larger than one injury scare or one hard slide.
