Esteban Rodriguez stopped Chris Camozzi by fourth-round knockout at 1:43 on Friday night to win the interim BKFC cruiserweight title at BKFC 88 in Denver. The title fight headlined a nine-bout card at the National Western Center.
Rodriguez, who entered the bout on a three-fight winning streak, took control of a main event that carried extra weight because Camozzi had been a former 205-pound champion. Camozzi had lost that title to Alessio Sakara last October, and Friday was his chance to reset the division in front of a live national audience.
The card moved quickly once the action started. BKFC 88 aired live on Prime Video at 9:00 p.m. ET, with free prelims beginning on YouTube one hour earlier. The main event gave the show its clearest result, while several other bouts ended before the scorecards were needed.
Ramiro Figueroa beat Elvin Brito by unanimous decision at lightweight, Corey Willis stopped Josh Copeland by second-round TKO at heavyweight, and Josh Fremd finished Jared Torgeson by first-round stoppage at cruiserweight at 1:32. Rodney Hinton needed only 0:22 to stop Andrew Yates by first-round TKO at welterweight, Deron Winn got past Erick Lozano by third-round TKO at cruiserweight at 0:47, and Matt Maestas finished Ruben Arroyo by second-round TKO at lightweight at 1:54.
Octavin Turner and Anthony Yost also picked up unanimous decision wins at flyweight, over Joby Steffensmeier and Angelo Trujillo, respectively. The result left Rodriguez with the night’s most important prize and gave BKFC 88 a clean finish after a card that stayed busy from the opening prelim to the closing bell.
