Fakhar Zaman blazed 103 off 51 balls and Lahore Qalandars held off a late charge to beat Quetta Gladiators by nine runs at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday in Pakistan Super League 11. Lahore finished on 197-6, and Quetta were restricted to 188-7 in 20 overs while chasing 198.
Zaman’s innings gave Lahore the platform, and Charith Asalanka added 31 off 24 deliveries as the defending champions kept the scoreboard moving. Zaman also brought up his 26th PSL half-century and his third PSL century in the innings, while he and Abdullah Shafique shared a 57-run partnership before it was broken.
Quetta had enough resistance to keep the match alive deep into the chase. Shamyl Hussain scored 53 off 31 balls and Rilee Rossouw made 62 off 29 balls, with Shamyl and Saud Shakeel putting on 49 runs in the opening stand. Rossouw then reached his 13th PSL fifty, but Lahore’s bowlers kept finding a way back.
Haris Rauf took two wickets for Lahore, and Ubaid Shah dismissed Rossouw for 62 off 29 balls. Abrar Ahmed remained unbeaten on 24 off 14 deliveries, but Quetta still finished eight short of the target after needing 19 runs from the last over. Lahore’s fourth win in the ongoing PSL 11 keeps the pressure on the rest of the field, while Quetta are left to wonder how close they came after a chase that never quite got over the line.
