Jay Klaitz says he would not pay $100 for Grand Theft Auto Vi, pushing back on the idea that Rockstar should put a premium price on the game as debate swirls around its launch. In an interview with online marketplace Eldorado, Klaitz said the game should stay affordable for a broader playerbase, even as he admitted that is not the reality he expects.
“No, I wouldn’t,” Klaitz said when asked if he would spend $100 on the game. He added that his ideal version of the pricing debate would be one where Rockstar keeps the title accessible to all players, but said he also realizes that is not what is likely to happen. He suggested the company could instead follow what he called the “Lester” approach, describing it as reeling players in first and getting them hooked.
The price debate has shadowed Grand Theft Auto 6 since the game was announced, and the speculation has only grown as its release gets closer. The title is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and analysts have suggested a $70 price would actually generate more money for Rockstar than a higher tag.
Klaitz, who played one of the series’ characters, grounded his view in the realities of his own life as a parent. He said he is chasing his two kids around and is often thrilled if he gets to sit down and play once a week, usually for only about an hour at a time. “It’s hard as you get older, brother,” he said, adding that he would happily download the game and “screw around” for the 10 minutes of free time he gets here and there if it cost $20, but not at $100.
Rockstar has not released any official pricing details for Grand Theft Auto 6, leaving the market to speculate over whether the company will keep the game at a lower price or try to charge a premium. What is clear is that the pressure is not just about one fan’s budget. With the game projected to bring in $3.2 billion in its first 12 months, the eventual price will shape one of the biggest launches in gaming before a single copy is sold.
