Shreveport shooting leaves eight children dead after domestic dispute

By Emily Rhodes Apr 19, 2026

Eight children are dead after a shooting on W. 79th Street in Shreveport, where police say a domestic dispute turned into a scene of mass bloodshed. The children were between 18 months and 15 years old. Ten people were struck by gunfire in all, and two women survived.

Police said the shooting began as a domestic dispute, then escalated fast. After the gunfire, the suspect tried to get away by carjacking and driving toward Bossier, where later located him and shot him. The suspect died there.

That sequence leaves Shreveport with the immediate grief of eight dead children and the sharper reality that the violence did not end at the original scene. It moved across city lines, and it ended only after police found the suspect in Bossier.

The question now is not what happened at the scene. Police have already said enough for that part: a domestic dispute, then a shooting, then a flight to Bossier, then the suspect's death. The question is how a domestic conflict turned into a night that killed eight children and wounded two women, all in one burst of gunfire.
