Dijon and Sochaux finished level at 0-0 on the 30th day of the National, a result that kept the leaders in place after a tense top-of-the-table meeting at Stade Gaston-Gérard. More than 14,500 spectators watched the match, which ended with Dijon still first on 56 points and Sochaux second on 53.
Vincent Hognon called it “a beautiful match, clearly a duel at the top of the table,” but he left with “a slightly bitter taste” because he felt Sochaux had created the better chances. The coach said Dijon’s intensity made the first half difficult, stopping his team from using the width of the pitch and settling into its game, before Sochaux improved after the break as Dijon’s pressing dropped off. He added that his side could have been caught on the counterattack or from a set piece, even in a stronger second half.
The draw preserved Dijon’s three-point lead and kept both clubs in the race for direct promotion to Ligue 2, with the pressure now shifting to the final stretch. Sochaux is without a win in three matches and has four left to play, including three at Bonal, where it will host Bourg in its next home fixture.
Hognon said the result was frustrating, but that his team was “in the right place” over the course of the match. With four rounds left and most of them at home, Sochaux still has the schedule it wanted — but it also has almost no room left to waste another night like this one.
