Davido makes Coachella debut with Gobi Stage set and Afrobeats spotlight

By Olivia Spencer Apr 19, 2026

made his long-awaited Coachella debut on Saturday, April 11, in Indio, California, delivering a 45-minute set on the Gobi Stage at the 2026 festival. He opened with Dami Duro and followed with If, Skelewu and With You, giving the crowd a snapshot of the run that has made him one of Afrobeats’ most recognizable names.

The set also brought one of the day’s sharpest moments when Davido invited onstage for a medley that included High. Later that night, and appeared with on the main stage for a live rendition of the Essence remix, even though neither artist was officially listed on the festival lineup.

Davido’s appearance mattered because is the festival’s 25th edition, running across two weekends from April 10 to April 12 and April 17 to April 19, and he was the only Nigerian-based artiste and the sole dedicated Afrobeats act officially on the performance lineup. For an event that has steadily drawn more Nigerian names over the years, his booking put the genre in a more visible place than a single set often allows.

That visibility also carried a question about how Coachella chooses to frame African music. Nigerian participation at the festival has grown from Seun Kuti’s 2012 appearance with Egypt 80 to Burna Boy and Mr Eazi in 2019, CKay in 2022, DJ Spinall in 2024, Tems in 2024 and Rema in 2025. DJ Spinall’s 2024 set, which brought out Fireboy DML and Teni, showed how Nigerian acts have used the festival to widen the stage when they get the chance.

Still, this year’s placement of Davido on one of the smaller stages and the reduced number of Nigerian acts on the lineup have fueled fresh conversation about representation. The answer, at least for now, is that Davido did not just turn up for a debut. He became the face of Afrobeats at Coachella 2026, and the size of that platform was part of the story.
