A homicide that began in Brooklyn lands in Boston on Friday’s Boston Blue, and it brings Maria Baez back into Danny Reagan’s orbit just as the case turns personal. Baez is in “For Those Who Weren’t Heard” to help uncover the truth, protect a vulnerable victim and reconnect with Danny.
Donnie Wahlberg said Baez is in this week’s episode and is returning for the finale, and he signaled the ending will not leave viewers gutted. “I think if anyone feels sad this week, they’ll probably be happy with [the ending]. That’s all I can say,” he said.
Wahlberg also framed the relationship between Danny and Baez as something that could still grow. “Danny knows people in Boston, so maybe he has ways to help her. The Silvers are a generous family. I think there’s a future for them,” he said, pointing to the possibility that the partnership and the romance thread can travel beyond a single case. The setup matters because the crime starts 214 miles away in Brooklyn and then shifts to Boston, pulling Baez with it.
That move also fits the show’s larger rhythm. Erin already appeared in the first episode of Boston Blue, and she comes back in the May 1 “L’dor Vador” episode, where the story centers on a captured serial killer and family secrets. Wahlberg said the reunion will turn on the question, “Why did you go?” and added, “I think you're going to discover why he really went, and he truly believes he can make a life there without letting go of his life in New York.”
The friction is built into the show’s own geography. Danny is trying to build a life in Boston without severing his New York ties, while the series keeps pulling familiar faces back into view to test whether those ties can hold. That includes Baez this week and Erin again in a few weeks, with the finale cameo designed to feel like part of the story rather than a stunt.
What comes next is already clear enough for viewers to mark the calendar: Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, streams the next day on Paramount+, and has already been renewed for Season 2. For a show built around a city change and the people caught between two lives, that means the real answer is not whether Danny stays connected to New York. It is that the series plans to keep both cities in play, and Maria Baez is part of the bridge.
