LSU opens the second half of its SEC schedule Friday night when No. 7 Texas A&M visits Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field for a three-game series in Baton Rouge. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT Friday, with Game 2 on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT and the finale Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
The timing matters because both teams arrive with clear stakes attached to the weekend. Texas A&M is 28-7 overall and 9-5 in the SEC, while LSU is 23-15 and 6-9 after a 4-2 win over Northwestern State on Tuesday night. The Tigers also have the numbers that usually travel in April: a.285 team batting average, 63 home runs and a pitching staff that leads the nation with 453 strikeouts. LSU has led the country in strikeouts in both 2024 and 2025, piling up 798 and 760, respectively.
For LSU, freshman first baseman Mason Braun provided one of the few bright spots last weekend at Ole Miss, batting.455 with five hits in 11 at-bats. The Tigers also showed their power by hitting home runs in three consecutive at-bats at Ole Miss on Sunday, which came a week after they went back-to-back-to-back at Tennessee on April 5. That kind of burst has helped mask some uneven stretches, but the series with Texas A&M will demand more than power alone.
The matchup has a history that stretches back to 1907, and Texas A&M leads the all-time series 34-32-1. The teams have split the 38 games played since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2013, and LSU is 8-7 against Texas A&M in SEC regular-season games in Baton Rouge since then. The Tigers beat the Aggies 4-3 in the 2025 SEC Tournament, after posting 2-1 series wins in 2023 in Bryan-College Station and in 2024 in Baton Rouge. Texas A&M took two of three from LSU last season in Bryan-College Station, and the Aggies come in ranked No. 7 by, No. 9 by Baseball America and No. 10 by D1 Baseball.
There is still a gap between LSU's ceiling and its record, and coach Jay Johnson has said the answer is execution: better pitching, cleaner defense and timely hitting. Game 1 is scheduled to pit Casan Evans against Shane Sdao, with William Schmidt set to face Aiden Sims in Game 2. Game 3 pitchers are listed as TBA. All three games will include special tributes to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the series will unfold before a crowd at Alex Box that has already seen how quickly LSU can change a game when its offense catches fire.
