Jacoby Brissett has not been in attendance for the first phase of the Cardinals' offseason program, a voluntary stretch of work that will not cost him any money in fines. The quarterback ended last season as Arizona's starter, but his absence this week lands at a time when the team still has not settled its plans for Week 1.
Brissett is reportedly seeking a new contract with more security than the one he has now. He is due a base salary of $4.88 million in 2026, with $1.5 million of that compensation guaranteed, and the Cardinals appear willing to address the deal. That matters because the team has not named him the starter, and General Manager Monti Ossenfort said on Thursday the club will “see how that room works by the time we get to August.”
For now, Gardner Minshew is the other quarterback option in Arizona. Next week's draft could add another name to the mix and change the picture again before the offseason reaches its next checkpoint.
The timing gives Brissett leverage, but it also leaves the Cardinals with an open question they would clearly prefer to answer sooner rather than later. If the team wants stability under center, it may need to decide whether to move toward the contract security he wants or keep waiting as the quarterback room keeps shifting around him.
