Trey Autry gives Wisconsin its first portal commit as roster reset begins

By Staff Writer Apr 17, 2026

Wisconsin landed and signed George Washington guard Trey Autry on Sunday evening, giving the Badgers their first transfer commitment in the portal and the first major step in a roster reset that is still far from finished.

Autry, a junior this past season, averaged 11.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three. He did that on 6.4 attempts per game from beyond the arc, a volume that helps explain why Wisconsin moved quickly to close the deal.

The fit is clear enough. Wisconsin had been looking for wings after the departures of Nick Boyd, John Blackwell and Andrew Rohde, and the Badgers are coming off a 2025 defense that performed well below expectations. Autry is expected to bring quality defense, while also giving Wisconsin a perimeter scorer who can stretch the floor. He is the son of former Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry, adding a name familiar to college basketball circles.

The size of the task, though, has not changed. Wisconsin still has five roster spots to fill for the 2026-27 season, which leaves the staff with plenty of work even after landing its first piece. For now, Autry gives the Badgers something they needed: a real answer on the wing and a sign that the portal haul has started.
