Disney showed the first footage of its new animated feature Hexed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the studio said Rashida Jones voices Billie Doe’s mother. The film is slated to reach theaters on November 25.
The movie follows Billie Doe, a teenager whose life changes when she and her Type-A mom begin to realize that what makes her unusual may actually be magical powers. Hailee Steinfeld voices Billie, while the first footage showed her taking a personality test and being interrogated by a book and quill speaking in British accents before the pair invite her into a world of magic and wonder.
Hexed is a new original animated feature from directors Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand. Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones are producing, with Jared Bush serving as executive producer.
Disney’s presentation made clear the studio is leaning on a familiar family premise with a fantasy turn, but the reveal also set a firm date for the project: November 25. For Jones, the casting adds another high-profile voice role to a film built around the relationship between a teenager and her mother as they confront powers neither fully understands at first.
