Bluesky Down as US East users report app, feed outages Monday

By Derek Hunt Apr 16, 2026

users in the US East region ran into intermittent outages on Monday, with the platform saying the problem had been affecting service since that morning. The social network said the disruption was tied to an issue with an upstream service provider and that it was working to restore full service as soon as possible.

The platform’s status page still listed the overall system as All systems Operational, even as its own incident note said the outages were ongoing by mid-afternoon. That mismatch landed in the middle of a day when showed a noticeable spike in user complaints, concentrated mostly on the mobile app and on feed and timeline problems.

About 50% of the reports centered on the app, while 23% involved feeds and timelines and 15% involved website access. Users said they were having trouble opening the app, refreshing timelines, loading posts and logging in, and some described brief connection failures. A few said switching to the web or using a VPN helped temporarily, which pointed to a problem that was disruptive without becoming a full nationwide shutdown.

Bluesky has grown quickly since its public launch, and Monday’s outage came after shorter disruptions earlier in 2026 on April 4 and April 5. On April 5, the service had a roughly 37-minute incident that affected feed aggregation for some users. The latest glitch again showed how a platform built around decentralized infrastructure can still be vulnerable when a third-party service falters.

For users trying to post, refresh or simply get back into the app on Monday, the service looked less like a total blackout than a recurring reminder that Bluesky’s technical backbone is still only as strong as the outside systems it depends on.
