Al Horford scored five points in Sunday’s 115-110 loss to the Clippers, finishing with four rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes as Golden State fell short on the road. The 39-year-old shot 2-of-5 from the field and 1-of-4 from 3-point range.
Horford filled in for Draymond Green, whose back issue is expected to be fine for Tuesday’s rematch during the Play-In Tournament. That should push Green back into a bigger role and leave Horford in the smaller one he has occupied for much of the season.
The Warriors originally had grander plans for Horford, but those never fully materialized. The acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis and Green’s continued production have limited Horford’s output, turning him into more of a secondary piece than a featured one.
That is the reality Golden State now carries into Tuesday: Horford can fill the gap when needed, but Green’s return should change the lineup picture again. For Horford, the night was another reminder that at this stage of his career, his value is measured less by volume than by the minutes he can steady.
