By Brandon Hayes Apr 16, 2026

made his first-ever appearance on the stage in Las Vegas on April 15, 2026, using to unveil new footage from his next film and accept the ’s America250 Award from . The 79-year-old director told the crowd, “This will not be my last, I promise.”

He also described the film in familiar blockbuster terms, saying, “This movie is an experience, and all you need to get from the beginning to the end is a seatbelt.” Spielberg said the footage, from a film that stars and , showed Blunt as a meteorologist who loses the ability to speak during a live segment. The cast also includes , Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell and Eve Hewson.

That pitch carries real weight because Disclosure Day is Spielberg’s first new movie since 2022’s The Fabelmans, and it is due in theaters on June 12. The film is about what might happen if humanity were to receive proof of non-human intelligent life, a subject Spielberg said has fascinated him since he was a little kid.

He tied that lifelong curiosity to a 2017 New York Times story about a Navy pilot who saw something on camera that could not be explained. “In 2017, I got very curious again,” Spielberg said, adding that he believes the finished movie will “answer questions and cause you to ask a lot of questions.”

Spielberg framed the project as both personal and commercial, recalling that as a child he screened movies for his boyhood friends at his parents’ home and “made money by charging 12 cents on popcorn.” He also said the state of moviegoing has become “a cage fight between the small screen and the big screen,” but added, “There was reason for hope.”

What happens next is simple enough: Disclosure Day reaches audiences on June 12, and Spielberg has made clear he expects the film to do more than entertain. He said he made it “with certainty that there is a lot more truth than fiction” in what viewers are about to see, which is as direct a sales pitch as he has ever offered from a stage.
