Sunrise On The Reaping Trailer Teases Haymitch, Effie and Snow

By Brandon Hayes Apr 13, 2026

has released a new promo for , and it does two things at once: looks back at the previous five films, then cuts to the first sneak peek of the prequel set for Nov. 20. The teaser moves quickly through familiar faces in their prime, including Effie, Caesar and Wiress, before turning to the new chapter that puts young Haymitch Abernathy at the center of the story.

Elizabeth Banks' Effie Trinket appears first, with the promo flashing to in the role for the upcoming film. The reel also features and as Wiress, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Stanley Tucci and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Jeffrey Wright and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Lynn Cohen and Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Donald Sutherland and Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, and Woody Harrelson and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy.

That casting montage is the point of the trailer: it ties the franchise together before the story moves back 24 years, to the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The film, based on Suzanne Collins' book and written by Billy Ray, follows young Haymitch in the prequel era and adds Glenn Close, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace and Ben Wang among its cast.

The promo's structure leaves little mystery about the studio's pitch. It is selling continuity first and novelty second, using the legacy of the earlier films to frame a prequel that has to stand on its own. The unanswered question now is not what the movie is about, but how far this version of Haymitch can carry a franchise that has already taught audiences exactly where its tragedy leads.
