Rachel Sennott has booked a key supporting role in Kockroach, the crime film that stars Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz and Alec Baldwin. The movie begins filming in Australia next week.
Matt Ross is directing the film, which is based on the William Lashner novel set in New York and follows a mysterious stranger who works his way into the city’s criminal underworld. The story centers on a character who transforms himself into a larger-than-life boss in a place where power is everything. Jonathan Ames wrote the screenplay, with revisions by Ross.
The casting adds another project to Sennott’s packed slate. She is currently leading the writers room on season two of HBO’s I Love LA, which is expected to shoot this year, and recently co-created and executive-produced Big Mistakes with Dan Levy for Netflix. She is also co-writing The Heidi Fleiss Story, which stars Aubrey Plaza.

Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie are producing Kockroach, while Black Bear will keep selling international rights at the Cannes market. CAA Media Finance and Range Select are co-representing domestic rights. The movie is being positioned as a New York crime picture with a hard-edged premise and a cast that gives it commercial weight before a frame has been shot.
