Nico Paz set for Real Madrid return after buyback clause activation

has already signed the papers for a return to , with the move set to take effect on July 1, according to a report on . said on the program that the 21-year-old midfielder had completed his comeback before Semana Santa and would rejoin the Santiago Bernabéu in the summer.

Inda said Real Madrid activated the buyback clause for Paz and paid 9 million euros to bring him back, after selling him for 6 million euros when he left in 2024 for . He said, in essence, that Paz had already signed his return and that the midfielder would arrive on July 1 to stay.

The timing matters because Real Madrid are searching for answers after a run of poor results, including a 1-1 home draw with Girona, elimination from the Copa del Rey and a 1-2 first-leg loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals. The club has also needed a creative presence in midfield since and Luka Modric moved on, and Paz’s form in Italy has pushed him into the conversation as one of the most promising talents in European football.

There had been talk of a return last summer, but Madrid did not move then, leaving Paz in Como under Cesc Fábregas. The midfielder’s rise there was strong enough to earn a call-up from , who handed him his debut with Argentina, and Madrid now appears ready to make his comeback the first signing of the 2026-2027 campaign.
