Rhythm Heaven Groove gets July 2 release date for Nintendo Switch

By Megan Foster Apr 9, 2026

has set a July 2 release date for on Nintendo Switch, ending an over-a-decade wait for a new game in the rhythm action series. The game will also be sold in Europe as .

The announcement makes Rhythm Heaven Groove the fifth game in Nintendo's series and the first all-new entry since 2011. Nintendo said, “Did you catch all that? #RhythmParadiseGroove comes to #NintendoSwitch July 2nd!”

That matters because the series has been away long enough for a generation of players to know it only from older handheld and console releases. The first game, Rhythm Tengoku, arrived on in Japan in 2006 and never officially left that market, though it became one of the most popular imported GBA games because the system was region-free and the game had little text.

Nintendo followed with Rhythm Heaven on in 2008, known in Europe as Rhythm Paradise, then Rhythm Heaven Fever on in 2011. Rhythm Heaven Megamix came to in 2011 as a remix collection with more than 100 rhythm games, but it was not a new mainline entry.

Rhythm Heaven Groove will again feature music produced by , keeping one of the series' defining creative names attached to the comeback. The games are built around rhythm challenges that ask players to use audio cues and match the beat to complete tasks, a simple formula that helped the series build a loyal following across platforms and regions.

The date finally gives the series a clear return point. For Nintendo, the question is no longer whether Rhythm Heaven is coming back, but whether the franchise can turn a July launch into a proper second life after more than a decade away.
