Galatasaray has begun drawing up its squad for next season while the championship race in the Super League is still on. Okan Buruk and the club’s management have started a cleanup operation that will see seven players moved on, with Mauro Icardi among the names expected to leave.
Icardi’s contract is set to expire, and he is not included in the plans for the new season. The Argentine forward will bid farewell to Galatasaray at the end of the campaign. Kaan Ayhan, Ahmed Kutucu and Günay Güvenç are also set to be let go, while Nicolo Zaniolo, Victor Nelsson and Yaser Asprilla are on the departure list.
The move comes even as Galatasaray keeps fighting for the title, a reminder that the club is trying to manage two seasons at once: the one still being played and the one already being built. Zaniolo and Nelsson have been out on loan at other teams, and Asprilla arrived on loan from Girona during the mid-season transfer window, underscoring how wide the overhaul is expected to reach.
The size of the cut is what gives the plan its force. Seven players are slated to go, and the list reaches from domestic rotation pieces to loanees who never fully settled into the club’s future picture. For Galatasaray, the question is no longer whether change is coming. It is how quickly the club turns a championship push into a squad reset before next season begins.
