Canvas experienced a possible outage on Thursday as reports of problems with the learning platform climbed past 4,400 and kept rising through the afternoon. By 1:23 p.m. PT, more than 2,700 users had already said they were having trouble.
Most of the complaints were about the website, according to outage reports tracked on Downdetector.com, which collects status reports from multiple sources. The platform’s status page said it was investigating an issue with Student ePortfolios, but its latest update showed no change.
The gap between the user complaints and the company’s own status page is what matters most here. Downdetector had already tallied nearly 10,000 reports by the time of the latest count, suggesting the problem was broad enough to reach far beyond a small set of accounts. Canvas has not indicated when the issue will be resolved, and for students and instructors trying to access coursework on a Thursday afternoon, that leaves the platform down at the moment they need it most.
