David told her, “This is your mom's special recipe, so I made it for Mother's Day. I love you,” as he showed off the cake. Hudson asked him, “Okay, what were you saying, David?” then told him, “Thank you! Give me a hug.” She also said, “He said he was coming here today, and I'm like, 'David ain't got here.' And then to hear you come out here, you done baked the cake.”
The moment landed because Hudson said the dessert was more than a treat. “My mother always made this pound cake,” she said, describing it as a family tradition for Mother's Day, birthdays and other special occasions. Hudson shares David with ex-fiancé David Otunga Sr. Last August, she said David was into basketball and music, was super tall and was heading into his junior year of high school. “People are like, 'Who that man Jennifer with?' And I'm like, 'Y'all, that's my son,'” she said then, a line that makes even more sense now that the teenager is tall enough to draw a double take before he even speaks.
